Hi - I’m wondering if you created or accessed a DOE Galaxy API??
I want to quickly access budget data for a bunch of individual schools.
Could you advise on how you went about pulling $data for 700+programs?

There is no official API to gather the Galaxy data, but you can get it by using this webpage: Galaxy Budget Summaries FY 2006 to FY 2026 . If you submit the form with a school’s DBN you’ll get budget data.
I have a process that goes through the entire list of DBNs, submits the form, then parses the output from this page.
Thanks for the quick response! I’ve been using the Galaxy portal but want to pull data for hundreds of schools without doing it one by one. It sounds like you set up a web scraper? I’m an independent researcher (and NYC PS parent) who works civic open data looking for ways to download large data sets for analysis. Would you be open to talking about your process? I forgot to mention, I live in District1, a “choice” district for elementary and middle school and began school search and application when my son was going into PreK. Now he’s in college so we managed the ordeal many times - with multiple spreadsheets! I’m also a big advocate for transparency in civic data and usually attend the NYC Open Data conference.
