Short version:
Please fill out my data request survey which will be forwarded to the DOE!
Long version:
I’ve submitted numerous FOIL requests over the past year in an effort to get the DOE to release more information on datasets I believe would be helpful to everyone.
When the DOE considers publishing new data sets, part of the decision-making process is influenced by interest expressed by the “stakeholders”, which includes NYCPS parents and members of the community. That interest can be expressed through FOIL requests or direct contact with DOE officials.
I’ve also been told that even relaying the fact that X number of people said they wanted so-and-so data would be enough for them to consider releasing new data. So I plan on testing this assertion by creating a Google survey and asking anyone with an interest in pressuring the DOE to release more data to fill it out. I plan on taking the results from the survey and present it to them as proof of interest from the public.
There are only two required fields: first name and whether or not you’re a parent of a NYPS student. There is a section with predefined datasets for you to check off to indicate interest and another freeform field for you to request additional datasets (please only check off the ones that really interest you). Think of this as an alternative to submitting your own FOIL requests. This checklist is a subset of actual outstanding FOIL requests I have made.
I have no idea if this will make any difference, but it’s a potential avenue I’d like to at least explore.
Thanks!
