Years ago, InsideSchools was the only source other than the DOE that provided high school information for parents. One of the best features were writeups by staff members who visited schools and described the overall environment, course offerings, and opportunities available to students. Sadly, these writeups have not been updated for about 6 years.
Inspired by these past gems, I have tried recreating them by asking AI to write broadly about what schools offer by having it analyze the various datasets available on NYC-SIFT. I used a very specific set of prompts in an effort to keep the same spirit that appeared in those InsideSchools writeups.
These AI summaries now appear under a section called “Overview”, which also shows the Academic and Survey Scores, which were only previously viewable from the giant list of schools or programs.
Other additions:
- “Jump To” links that will send to you directly to sections instead of having to scroll through the constantly growing amount of data.
- Truncating long text to help out our mobile friends. Clicking “[more]” or “[less]” will expand truncated content.
